Acupuncture vs. Chinese Medicine

Many Americans know acupuncture, but do not know the relationship between acupuncture, Chinese Medicine (CM) or traditional Chinese  medicine (TCM).

Following please find the relationships between these fields.

(1) Acupuncture is a very small branch of CM or TCM.

(2) CM or TCM includes Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM), acupuncture, and dozens of other medical fields.

(3) Because Chinese Herbal Medicine is the major component of CM or TCM, in China people usually refer to Chinese Herbal Medicine mainly when use the term CM or TCM.

(4) If acupuncture is to be included, the term acupuncture will be used specifically.  Otherwise, CM or TCM mainly refer to CHM.
